A shelf cloud is a type of low-hanging, horizontally extended, dense cloud formation. It usually appears at the leading edge of large thunderstorm systems known as cumulonimbus clouds.

The current weather pattern is linked to a strong Western Disturbance, originating from the Mediterranean region. This system moves inland through Turkey and travels across West Asia toward the Himalayan region of India.
