Low-Pressure System in UAE: Rain and Winds Intensify, Safety Alerts Tightened

The UAE is experiencing unsettled weather as a low-pressure system continues to influence conditions across the country. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), thunderstorms, rainfall, and strong winds are expected to persist until Monday.

Cloud Cover Increases, Intermittent Rainfall

NCM explained that an extension of surface low pressure, combined with a weak upper-air system, is leading to the formation of convective clouds across various regions.

As a result, the country is likely to witness partly cloudy to cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall, light to moderate winds, and dusty conditions in open areas.

Variable Speed Limits on Highways

In response to the changing weather, Abu Dhabi Police has revised speed limits on major roads.
Motorists are advised to follow the updated limits displayed on electronic signage. Speeds are reduced during periods of low visibility to prevent accidents such as hydroplaning (vehicle skidding on wet roads).

Safety Advisory Issued

Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has issued strict safety warnings to the public.

Precautions to follow during rainfall include:
• Avoid areas prone to flash floods
• Stay away from water accumulation zones
• Do not approach valleys and dams

Extended Weather Forecast

Friday & Saturday:
• Scattered showers expected
• Winds may freshen
• Dust may reduce visibility

Sunday:
• Continued cloud cover
• Chance of rainfall
• Strong winds at times

Monday:
• Partly cloudy skies
• Light rain likely in eastern and southern regions
• Dusty winds may intensify in the afternoon

Strict Action on Traffic Violations

Authorities have warned that traffic rules will be strictly enforced during this period. The following seven violations may attract heavy fines:
1. Entering flooded valleys
2. Gathering near dams
3. Obstructing emergency services
4. Distracted driving (mobile phone use)
5. Misuse of hazard lights
6. Ignoring temporary speed limits
7. Unsafe lane changes without indicators

With weather conditions turning unstable, authorities have urged residents and motorists to remain cautious. Strict adherence to safety guidelines is essential to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
