Chennai, Nov 15 (UNI) A new Low Pressure Area has formed over te Bay of Bengal
today and it is expected to revive the Northeast monsoon rainfall activity for the next
few days, with heavy rains in coastal, delta and southern districts, after a brief lull.
Met office sources today said under the influence of yesterday’s upper air cyclonic
circulation over South Sri Lanka and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, a Low
Pressure area has formed over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast at
today morning.
 
The associated cyclonic upper air circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean
sea level tilting southwest with height.

It is likely to move slowly west-northwestward during next 24 hours and could
intensify promising heavy rains, wioth heavy to heavy rains forecast in 17 districts
on November 17, including Chennai, which has been witnessing blustery wind
condition during the last couple of days, with the un playing hide and seek,
besides spells of rains in suburbs.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Arabian sea off south Kerala coast at
0.9 km above mean sea level.
Under the influence of the fresh system, light to moderate rain at isolated places
with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamil
Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Cuddalore,
Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur districts and Karaikal area tomorrow.

Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Thanjavur, Pudukkottai,
Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Villuppuram districts and Puducherry.
On November 17, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over
Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villuppuram, Puducherry, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli
and Kanyakumari districts.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore,
Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram and
Karaikal area.


Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in North coastal and Interior districts of
Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Villuppuram,
Cuddalore and Puducherry, on November 18 and the next day heavy rain is likely to occur
at isolated places over Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore.

On November 20 and 21, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35 kmph to 45 kmph and gusting up to
55 kmph likely to prevail along and off Tamil Nadu coast, over Gulf of Mannar and
adjoining Comorin area.
Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea in these areas till November 17.
