Severe winter in America, people are dying, 25 people have died so far
A severe winter has left America in distress. It is reported that many people have died in the severe winter and that road, rail and power systems have been disrupted. More than 235 million Americans in 40 states have been affected by the winter. The main reason for the cold in the country is the Fern storm that has been blowing in the past few days. Heavy snowfall on the road from New Mexico to New England has brought traffic to a standstill. A state of emergency has been declared in 20 states and the US capital, Washington, DC.
Snowfall to continue
Snow and ice are accumulating rapidly on the roads, affecting cleanup efforts. In areas with significant snow accumulation, travel problems and power outages are expected throughout the week. About one million homes have lost power. The National Weather Service said that heavy snow will continue in the coming weeks. Snowfall in New Mexico is over a foot.
Weather department urges caution
Weather forecasters warn that it will take time for the snow to melt. The governor of New Jersey has issued several warnings, including restrictions on vehicle travel, a 35 mph speed limit on highways, and people should stay indoors. More than 40 percent of the US population is reported to be in distress. Around January 22, an unusually strong winter storm named Fern originated on the coast of California and western Mexico. Heavy snow and strong winds were then experienced. It spread to South America in the following days.
