Mumbai recorded the lowest temperature of this season yesterday

Mumbai witnessed lowest night temperature on this season yesterday. on Wednesday Indian Meteorology Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory showing 19.4 degree Celsius. Its one degree below normal LPA. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature stood at 32.8 degrees, which was also below normal according to IMD data.

This was the second time this year that the IMD recorded a temperature of under 20 degrees after November 30, when it recorded 19.7 degrees. IMD Officials said that over the next week the temperature may dip gradually.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded in IMD’s Coastal observatory at Colaba stood at 21.5 degrees, while the maximum temperature was 30.8 degrees. This month unseasonal rain also recorded both observatories. Colaba record 8 mm and Santacruz record 39 mm rain.

According to Skymet Weather,

A trough is developing from the Southeast Arabian Sea to North Konkan and Goa. Therefore, winds over Mumbai and adjoining areas will be blowing from the southeast direction. These inland winds will be warmer and hence will not allow the temperature to drop. Wind direction is expected to change briefly between December 18 and 20.

Persistent cold winds from the north direction are essential for temperatures to drop over west Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Another reason for the delay in winter chill can be attributed to the lesser amount of snowfall over the Western Himalayas. We have not seen any active or strong Western disturbance dumping snowfall over the hills until now. Chances of heavy snowfall over the Western Himalayas are ruled out for another 10 days.
