UAE: Earthquake of magnitude 2.2 strikes country

A minor earthquake struck the UAE at 9.10pm on February 2, 2024, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

The 2.2-magnitude quake took place west of Falaj Al Moalla in Umm Al Quwain. It was at a depth of 5km. according to khaleeej times.

The authority said that the tremor was not felt by residents and had no effect in the country

A minor earthquake was recorded in the UAE reported on 09th last month.

The 2.8-magnitude quake and was recorded at a depth of 3km in Masafi, a mountainous village on the Fujairah-Ras Al Khaimah border.

It was recorded at 11.03pm.

Tremors were felt by residents, with the NCM reporting that the minor quake was felt “without any effect”.

Seismic activity is monitored by the NCM in the UAE to provide early warnings and to ensure safety.

Earthquakes are rare in the country, but tremors related to quakes elsewhere in the region – particularly from Iran – are more common.
