Lunar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates : Check city-wise timings in India

India, along with the entire regions of Asia, Europe, Africa, and Russia, will have the opportunity to witness a partial lunar eclipse tonight. According to astrophysicist Debi Prasad Duari, this celestial phenomenon will continue until the early hours of October 29.

During the night of October 28, there will be a partial lunar eclipse that can be observed by people in India, as well as those in Asia, Europe, Africa, and Russia. The eclipse is expected to occur late at night on October 28 and will last until the early hours of October 29, as stated by Mr. Duari in an interview with Press Trust of India.

Mr. Duari further explained that on October 28, the moon will be partially eclipsed by the shadow of the earth, providing people in India with the opportunity to experience a partial lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse consists of two stages, with the moon entering the shadow of the earth. When it enters a partially shadowed region, it is known as a penumbral eclipse, during which the moon remains partly illuminated.

“The change in brightness is not very noticeable. After this phase, the moon will partially enter the actual dark part of the earth’s shadow, which is referred to as an umbral lunar eclipse and is considered the actual eclipse by most people,” he added.

Although the penumbral eclipse will begin at approximately 11:31 pm Indian Standard Time (IST) on the night of October 28, the more noticeable partial umbral eclipse will start in the early hours of October 29, around 1:05 am IST, according to Mr. Duari.

“The eclipse will reach its maximum at around 1:44 am and will conclude by 2:23 am. The magnitude of the partial lunar eclipse will be approximately 0.12, indicating the maximum obscuration of the lunar disc,” stated the astrophysicist.

On October 14, there was an annular solar eclipse that was observed by people primarily in North and South America, where a ring of fire was visible across a significant portion of the western hemisphere.
