According to the emergency ministry, the tremor occurred at a depth of 100 km about 44 km (27 miles) south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Pacific coast of Russia.Media footage from the Kamchatka peninsula, about 6,800 km east of Moscow, showed some building cracks and supermarket bottles broken after being knocked over by the earthquake, but no significant instant structural damage was evident.
