Taiwan Hit by 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake

A powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on Friday morning, with its epicenter located 34 km east of Hualien city. The quake occurred at 7:35 am local time, with a depth of 9.7 km below the Earth’s surface, according to the Meteorological Agency.

Taiwan is situated in a seismically active zone, positioned between two tectonic plates, making it prone to earthquakes. The epicenter was approximately 15 km beneath Hualien, an area that experienced a devastating earthquake last April, resulting in 17 fatalities.

Fortunately, the Taiwan National Fire Agency has reported no casualties from today’s earthquake, which is the strongest to hit the region in the last 25 years.
