kerala weather 16/07/24 : Rains would steadily decrease in the south and central Kerala after 48 hours
heavy rain in kerala to continue next 48 hours according to latest weather obsevations. The monsoon depressions are primarily responsible for the current heavy rainy spell over Kerala and this would continue till 18th or 19th July. The twin mid tropospheric depressions are developing with one over Gujarat and another fully developing over the central Bay of Bengal by 17th July.
But these depressions though bring good amount of rain, it may not become extremely heavy or dangerous as cloudbursts due to absence of easterly waves or easterly anomalies. After 18th July, the rains would steadily decrease in the south and central Kerala, but remain for some more days in north Malabar with reduced intensity.
Today and tomorrow
16th and 17th July 2024 also heavy rains may batter the eastern and coastal pockets of Kannur, Kozhikode Malappuram and some pockets like Mannarkad, Ottapalam, in Palakkad, and pockets like Kodungalloor, Wadakkanchery, Chalakkudy, Iringalakkuda, N. Parur, Kothamangalam, Piravom, Muvattupuzha, Neriyamangalam, Adimali, north eastern pockets of Idukki, Vaikom & Cherthala. Night travel along the highranges mey be avoided as already warned by Govt authorities.
Heavy Spell in West Coast
In the western Konkan Mangaluru & Maharashtra coast and over coastal Gujarat, heavy rains would pound incessantly as the monsoon depressions would strengthen the western monsoon trough.
As the depression over central Bay is also strengthening by 17th July, the northern monsoon trough may shift south along with a clear west to east shear zone from north Rajasthan to Andhrapradesh, extreme rains may occur along the pockets like Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal Jabalpur, Nagpur, Raipur, Korba lying in the shear zone on 17th and 18th July.
Further north, the NCR Delhi, pockets in Haryana, Punjab, and a few pockets in Himachal Pradesh and western Uttrakhand may get isolated moderate to heavy rains due to monsoon interaction with a western a disturbance lying at middle and lower levels in the north west.
