Cyclone Asna update (30/08/24): Cyclone Asna has formed in the Arabian Sea and is likely to move towards Oman

The deep depression over Gujarat turned into a cyclonic storm Asna. Finally IMD declared the formation of cyclonic storm over Arabian sea this evening. the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) confirmed the formation of cyclone morning itself. The cyclonic storm was confirmed after the wind speed reached 65 kmph (35 knots) at 5.30 am today according to JTWC.

The cyclone may continue as same intensity till Saturday evening and will move towards oman coast over the sea. The cyclonic storm Asna formed near the Pakistan coast in the northeast Arabian Sea. It may weaken before it reaches the coast of Oman.

According to the new track , Cyclone Asna is likely to move away from the Indian and Pakistani coasts from today. Pakistan’s port of Gwadar, Iran’s Chabahar, Oman’s Muscat, Sur, Khuriyat, Ibra, Sumil and Baraka will be included in the cyclone’s affected area cone of uncertainty. Name of cyclone Asna suggested by Pakistan. In Urdu, it means praise.

With the formation of the cyclone, rainfall in Gujarat and other north-western states will start receding. This is due to the concentration of clouds from the sea by the cyclone. Cyclone Asna is likely to weaken into a deep depression in the sea parallel to Muscat and Sur at 5.30 pm on Saturday.

Heavy rain in Oman from Monday

Metbeat Weather, a private weather firm in Kerala, said there is a possibility of heavy rains and floods in Oman next week. Heavy rains and winds are expected from Monday in areas from Sohar in Oman to the al-Jumeiah coast. Areas including Dukam and Salalah will not be affected by the cyclone. There will be rain in Salalah, but there is no possibility of other problems.
