As the Blue alert has been issued at Idukki dam due to the water level has reached 2372.88 feet. Currently, the water level is at 66.81% of the dam’s storage capacity. A blue alert is announced when it reaches 2372.58 feet, According to the rule curve, a red alert will be issued if the water level reaches 2379.58 feet. The dams will be opened only after a red alert is issued.
Yesterday, 8 dams in Kerala were under a red alert. Today, the number of dams under red alert has increased to 9. The dams under red alert include Banasura Sagar (90.37%), Sholayar (98.1%), Mattupetty (93.4%), Ponmudi (93.3%), Kutyadi (98.7%), Poringin Kuth (73.7%), Kallarikkutty (95.2%), Lower Periyar (97.2%), and Muzhiyar (90.3%). It is predicted that the rainfall in the state will decrease from today. Strong winds are also expected to ease around noon today, with rain occurring at long intervals.

In Kerala, especially in the northern districts, water bodies are at capacity due to continuous rain for weeks. The reservoirs have reached maximum storage capacity. If the rain continues, an emergency situation will need to be addressed. Today, the weather department has issued a rain warning in only 9 districts of Kerala. All alerts are yellow. Private weather observers have predicted a reduction in rain since last midnight.
The districts under yellow alert today are Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Since morning, rain has begun to decrease across all districts. There are also breaks in the rain. In low-lying areas, water has overflowed due to yesterday’s rain. It is expected that the water will start to recede as there are intervals in the rain.
