Kerala weather 22/08/24: Low pressure formed over Arabian Sea, here’s how rain is likely from Saturday

The cyclonic circulation, which formed over Lakshadweep the yesterday and caused widespread rain and strong winds in Kerala on Wednesday, strengthened and formed a low pressure by this afternoon. The low-pressure area was formed between Karnataka and Goa in the east central part of the Arabian Sea.

The low-pressure area is located at an altitude of 5.8 km above the sea surface. It will move in a northwesterly direction during the next 24 hours. MetBeat Weather has concluded that this low pressure will not cause any specific climate change in Kerala.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal the other day is close to northern Bangladesh. The low pressure has been located here for the last two days. With this, Bangladesh and Tripura in India are receiving heavy rains that have caused floods. It is expected that there will be a decrease in the intensity of rainfall in the north-eastern states from tomorrow.

Heavy rains resume in Kerala on Saturday

The same atmosphere condition in Kerala, may to continue tomorrow. There is a possibility of rain again on Saturday. Rainfall is expected in north and central Kerala. Moderate rainfall is likely to occur in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam districts and Idukki. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the eastern hilly areas of Kannur, Malappuram and Palakkad districts.

Similar weather conditions are likely to continue on Sunday as well. Another low-pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal after The 25th of this month. Therefore, there may be another spell of rain in north and central Kerala by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department‘s week-wise forecast for the next two weeks has been released. For the week from August 23-29, all districts except Idukki are predicted to receive above-normal rainfall, while Kasaragod district and north of Kannur district are predicted to receive much more rainfall than normal.

For the week from August 30 to September 9, normal rainfall is predicted in most districts or below normal rainfall in some districts.

Kasaragod district, western part of Kannur district, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts are likely to receive normal rainfall.

Below normal rainfall is predicted in the eastern region of Kannur district, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad and Ernakulam districts.
