Mumbai hoarding collapsed, leaving 8 dead and 60 injured as rain and dust storms battered the city

In the Ghatkopar neighborhood of Mumbai, a massive billboard collapsed on a gas pump on Monday, resulting in at least eight fatalities and sixty injuries. The event was brought on by violent dust storms that were followed by a lot of rain, which completely destroyed the city.

The incident happened at the Pantnagar gas station near Police Ground on the Eastern Express Highway. Videos appeared to show multiple cars stuck beneath the billboard.

According to news agency PTI, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani (BMC) announced that a team from the National Disaster Response Force has joined the rescue effort.

The officer stated that the injured were sent to Rajawadi Hospital, which is managed by the civic association.

The BMC replied by sending a notice to the organization.
The BMC said in a statement that it permits holding spaces up to 40 by 40 square feet. The illegal hoarding, which ultimately collapsed, was 120 by 120 square feet.

AFFECTED FLIGHT OPERATIONS, TOWERS FELL

At least 15 diversions were made as a result of the Mumbai airport’s temporary one-hour suspension of flight operations due to the bad weather and dust storm.

The India Meteorological Department warned people to exercise caution as strong winds are expected to linger in some locations over the next four hours.

According to a Metro Rail spokeswoman cited by news agency PTI, metro services were suspended between Aarey and Andheri East metro stations when a banner fell on the overhead wire as a result of heavy winds.

Strong gusts caused an overhead equipment pole between the Thane and Mulund stations to bend, affecting suburban trains on the Central Railway.

The main spokesperson for Central Railway announced the suspension of the suburban services on the Main Line.

Kalwa in the Thane district and a few other places reported having power outages.
