Eid al Fitr likely on April 10 as per astronomical data

Excitement surrounding Eid al-Fitr is starting to build in the Sultanate of Oman as the first day of Eid al-Fitr is most likely to fall on April 10, according to astronomical data.

Abdulwahab Al Busaidi, director of the Observatory of the Oman Astronomical Society, told the Observer that there was a 99.9 percent chance of rain on Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday (April 10).

“As for Eid al-Fitr, it’s easier to predict this time. A crescent moon will be visible just after sunset on April 9th. Therefore, Oman will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on April 10th. “It will be,” Al Busaidi said.

“This also applies to all neighboring countries and all other Islamic and Arab countries. I believe that 99.9 percent of all Islamic countries will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the same April 10th. “I’m expecting it,” he added.

Mr Al Busaidi said the reason is that the moon is above the horizon for up to 50 minutes after sunset. “That’s a very long time and the removal rate will be 1.2 percent, which means you can see the crescent moon with the naked eye,” he said.

Eid is one of the most awaited festivals in the Islamic calendar. The weeks leading up to the day involve extensive preparations, including shopping, planning excursions, and possibly traveling.

Oman currently grants the same number of public holidays to both the government and the private sector. Employees say the move is good, especially during long holidays such as the Eid holiday.
