Widespread rain is expected in Kerala today, The temperature range is expected to be between 69 to 80°F

Widespread rain is expected intensify in various parts of Kerala today, with strong winds and thunderstorms predicted. The Central Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in six districts (Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad) due to the possibility of heavy rain. All other districts are on yellow alert.

The reason for the rain is the presence of a trough and cyclonic circulations along the Kerala coast. Coastal areas from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram have been receiving rain since last night.

A cyclonic circulation formed over the South East Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep yesterday, while another cyclonic trough is present over North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh. A low-pressure trough is also located over the central eastern Arabian Sea to the Maldives.

As a result, heavy rain with thunder is expected in eastern Kerala today afternoon. Isolated areas may experience very heavy to heavy rain on August 20 and 21.

Metbeat Weather, a private weather agency, predicts very heavy to heavy rain in Kerala’s hilly areas today, with rain expected in the afternoon. Coastal areas will experience rain without thunder in the morning, while the Arabian Sea will also see rainfall with lightning and wind.

Caution is advised when traveling to eastern regions due to the risk of flash floods and landslides. It is not safe to bathe or engage in tourist activities in rivers and streams originating from the mountains.
