Kerala Weather Alert August 14, 2024: Expect thunderstorms across Kerala today, with a high risk of flash floods

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the sea near Sri Lanka, bringing a possibility of heavy rain in Kerala today and tonight. A low-pressure trough has also developed from Kanyakumari to Rayalaseema, intensifying rain in eastern Kerala and Tamil Nadu. This will lead to increased water flow to Kerala’s dams.

Heavy rain is expected in various areas, including Coastal regions from Kozhikode to Kannur and plane area. Kozhikode and Malappuram district border areas. Eastern areas of Kannur, Palakkad, and Thrissur districts.
South-eastern regions of Thrissur district. Eastern regions of Ernakulam, Kollam, and Idukki districts.

Caution is advised in eastern hilly areas, as sudden heavy rains may cause waterlogging. The rain may be intermittent, with sunshine expected in the morning. However, the heat may decrease in the next two days.

Note this is not part of the North East Monsoon . The monsoon is progressing normally and may continue until September 30. The current rain is caused by the cyclone near Kanyakumari and associated low-pressure area.
