UAE sets new August temperature record, hits 9-year high of 51.8°C
The UAE recorded its highest temperature in nine years in August, with a temperature of 51.8°C recorded in Swehan, Al Ain. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the temperature, recorded on 1 August 2025, beats the previous August record of 51.4°C, set in Mesaierah in 2017. This indicates a clear increase in temperatures over the past few years.
August Weather Summary
August is a continuation of the hot weather of July. The temperature is influenced by the spread of thermal lows from the southwest. The most important of these is the Indian monsoon low. This causes temperatures to rise across the country. The combination of mountains and high temperatures in the eastern and southern regions of the UAE leads to the formation of clouds.
These clouds often develop into showers in the afternoon and extend to some inland areas. The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affects some areas, especially in the first half of the month, leading to the formation of convective rain clouds. The ITCZ is a low-pressure area near the equator where winds converge, causing warm, moist air to rise and produce thunderstorms.
Winds from land and sea are a major factor in August’s weather. Southeasterly winds are common at night and in the morning. Northerly winds blow during the day. Fresh southerly winds in the morning sometimes affect the country. This can cause dust storms. Fresh northwesterly winds can also occur, which also cause dusty winds. The average relative humidity in August is 47 percent. This is a slight increase from July. Mornings and evenings can feel particularly humid. The average maximum relative humidity can vary from 63 percent to 80 percent and the average minimum temperature can vary from 17 percent to 32 percent.
