തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറ് പസഫിക് സമുദ്രത്തിലാണ് 300 വര്‍ഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള പവിഴപുറ്റ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. പാപ്പുവ ന്യൂ ഗുനിയക്കും ആസ്‌ത്രേലിയക്കും സമീപം സോളമന്‍ ദ്വീപിനോട് ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് പവിഴപ്പുറ്റ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. സോളമന്‍ ദ്വീപ് ലോകത്ത് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ കാലാവസ്ഥാ വ്യതിയാനം നേരിടുന്ന പ്രദേശവുമാണ്. എങ്കിലും ഇവിടെ മനോഹരമായ പവിഴപ്പുറ്റ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത് ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരെ അമ്പരപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

നാഷനല്‍ ജോഗ്രഫിക് ചാനലിന്റെ വിഡിയോ ഗ്രാഫറായ മനു സാന്‍ ഫെലിക്‌സ് ആണ് പവിഴപുറ്റ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. തകര്‍ന്ന കപ്പലിന്റെ അവശിഷ്ടമുണ്ടെന്ന് ഗൂഗിള്‍ മാപ്പില്‍ മനസിലാക്കിയാണ് ആ പ്രദേശത്ത് തെരച്ചില്‍ നടത്തിയതെന്ന് മനു സാന്‍ ഫെലിക്‌സ് പറഞ്ഞു. 34 മീറ്റര്‍ വീതിയിലും 32 മീറ്റര്‍ നീളത്തിലും 5.5 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരത്തിലുമാണ് പവിഴപ്പുറ്റുള്ളത്.
