Kerala weather 18/05/24 : Heavy rain; Red, orange alert issued in various districts
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Idukki districts. A red alert has been sounded in more districts on Sunday and Monday. This is for the first time that a red alert has been sounded in Kerala due to heavy rains this year.
An orange alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department today in view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. The very heavy rainfall means that 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain can be received in 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.
A red alert has been sounded tomorrow due to heavy rains that cause heavy rains in a short span of time. Extreme rainfall (Extremely heavy rainfall) can cause many hazards. There is a possibility of flooding and flash floods causing waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general.
