El Niño to Continue Until March in UAE; Major Changes in Temperature and Rainfall Possible

The effects of the El Niño phenomenon are expected to continue in the UAE until March 2027, with a 96% probability, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The phenomenon could lead to deviations from normal temperatures and rainfall patterns across the country. El Niño is also expected to reach its strongest phase during October and November.

UAE Could See Conditions Favourable for Rainfall

The NCM had earlier indicated that El Niño could create conditions favourable for rainfall in the UAE. Increased atmospheric moisture and a higher possibility of rain could be among its effects. According to NCM meteorologist Ahmed Habib, the influence of the phenomenon could be more pronounced during October and November.

However, the presence of El Niño alone does not guarantee extremely heavy rainfall, storms or flooding in the UAE. The amount and intensity of rainfall will depend on local weather systems, seasonal changes and other atmospheric factors.

Caution Against Viral Weather Warnings

The NCM has also cautioned against social media posts claiming that El Niño will bring extremely heavy rainfall and flooding to the UAE. Authorities have advised the public not to panic over such claims and to rely only on authorised sources for weather forecasts and official warnings.

El Niño generally occurs every two to seven years. Although it typically lasts between nine and 12 months, its duration and intensity can vary.

Therefore, while El Niño could increase the likelihood of rainfall in the UAE, a clearer picture of the upcoming weather will depend on further forecasts and official updates.
