Low-pressure system intensifies; UAE to see five days of rain, with heavy showers and strong winds possible

The UAE is likely to experience rain across the country over the next five days, according to Dr Ahmed Habib, a meteorologist at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The eastern parts of the country are expected to receive the most rainfall, while Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain may also see showers. Rain has already been recorded near Hatta, he said.

Changing weather conditions bring rain

Changes in weather systems are creating favourable conditions for cloud formation and rainfall in the coming days. A surface low-pressure system extending towards the UAE from the southeast, along with an upper-level low-pressure area, is contributing to the changing weather conditions. Rain-bearing clouds may develop again tomorrow.

Rain is expected to begin in the eastern regions today and could spread to northern areas and the western coast. Moisture carried from the Arabian Sea by southwesterly winds is also contributing to the favourable conditions for rainfall.

On Thursday, rain is possible in both eastern and western parts of the country. Friday is expected to be generally clear or partly cloudy, although clouds may develop in some areas.

Strong winds and possible hail

Some areas may experience light hail along with rainfall. However, widespread hailstorms are not expected, according to the meteorologist. Wind speeds could reach up to 50 km/h tomorrow, potentially raising dust and reducing visibility.

Heavy rain possible in mountain areas

Heavy rainfall is possible over the mountainous regions of the eastern UAE. Authorities have advised caution due to the possibility of water flowing through wadis following rainfall.

The low-pressure system is expected to gradually weaken on October 23 and 24. However, residual moisture in the upper atmosphere could still support cloud formation over mountainous areas.

Fog and mist also possible

Humidity is expected to increase over coastal and inland areas during the night and early morning. This could lead to the formation of fog or mist in some locations.
